Technology Licensing Executive

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Technology Licensing Executive to join one of the leading technology commercialisation and investment organisations in Central London. The company’s integrated commercialisation approach encompasses the identification of ideas, the protection of intellectual property, the development and licensing of technology and the formation, incubation and funding, through investment, of technology businesses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Identification and review of inventions arising through research in the relevant Faculties
· Initial commercial and intellectual property assessment of inventions - including use of on-line searching, search services, libraries and other market research techniques etc
· Patent filing and prosecution, using external agents
· Formulation of commercial strategy for optimal development and exploitation of new technologies
· Marketing inventions to industry via direct calls, company visits, partnering meetings, mailshots etc.
· Negotiation and project management of licenses and development agreements
· Management of relationships with College Departments, spin-out companies, licensees and others.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
(these must be previously demonstrated skills)
· Previous experience in technology licensing, product development, commercial deal doing and operating in a commercial business environment preferably in a large engineering company and/or small start up and/or technology transfer business
· Qualified to at least MSc level in a physical sciences discipline, preferably materials or physics, ideally with some chemistry knowledge
· IP knowledge (particularly software)
· Excellent interpersonal skills (e.g. tact, diplomacy), and the ability to communicate with contacts at all levels, e.g. academics, potential investors, commercial managers
· Written communication skills (including numeracy) with good attention to detail
· An ability to identify commercial applications for early stage inventions.
· Methodical and organised approach
· Ability to work as part of a team, and to integrate effectively into a pre-existing team - both the Technology Transfer Team and overall company teams
· Enthusiastic, flexible, and mature approach to work
· Ability to remain calm under pressure
Other Desirable Skills
· Experience and understanding of the patent system, preferably with some exposure to filing patents, briefing patent agents and/or other forms of intellectual property right protection (e.g. copyright in software code)
· Experience of patent process
· Experience of negotiation of legal agreements
· Experience of working within a licensing environment
· A higher degree (e.g. PhD, MBA) would be preferred although this may be substituted with demonstrated experience in a mechanical engineering and/or industrial chemistry field.
Salary will be in the range £35-40k per annum plus discretionary bonus and other company benefits.
